A police officer has died after a stabbing assault in Brussels on Thursday evening, Belgian police mentioned in a tweet.
“A police patrol was attacked by an individual with a knife. Different policemen got here as backup and use their weapons to shoot the attacker as to manage the individual,” a spokesperson of the North Brussels police power informed CNN by e mail.
“The injured had been delivered to the hospital. The primary investigative duties are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
The situation of the attacker will not be but clear.
Belgium’s Prime Minister Alexander De Croo expressed his condolences, saying his ideas exit to the household and associates of the deceased officer.
“Our law enforcement officials threat life and limb daily to maintain our society secure. Sadly, that’s as soon as once more obvious in the present day,” he mentioned in a tweet.
Belgian Inside Minister Annelies Verlinden described the incident as “horrible drama and heartbreaking information.”
