Concerning the Place
CISESS/UMD seeks an skilled Atmospheric Scientist to hitch our Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) retrieval crew. The profitable candidate will deal with the event and testing of methane retrievals utilizing shortwave infrared (SWIR) observations from NOAA and its companion satellite tv for pc sensors. This work can be carried out in shut coordination with scientists at Harvard College who developed methane retrieval algorithm for imagers on NOAA satellites. This position is pivotal in advancing our understanding of methane releases from varied services associated to grease and gasoline exploration and extraction.
Key Duties:
- Adapt NOAA GOES-R collection Superior Baseline Imager (ABI) algorithm developed by Harvard College to Seen Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument on NOAA polar-orbiting satellites
- Conduct case research of recognized methane leaks/releases from tremendous emitters across the globe
- Conduct information evaluation to grasp the constraints (or most potential) of the methane algorithm
- Collaborate with Harvard College to boost the methane retrieval algorithm
- Conduct case research of comparisons between VIIRS and ABI methane fluxes for retrieval artifacts related to variations in spatial and temporal resolutions between VIIRS and ABI
- Publish analysis findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Current analysis at nationwide and worldwide conferences.
{Qualifications}:
- Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Distant Sensing, or a carefully associated discipline.
- Confirmed experience in radiative switch, retrieval algorithm growth, and atmospheric information evaluation.
- Expertise dealing with and decoding giant volumes of satellite tv for pc information.
- Proficiency in information evaluation software program and programming languages (e.g., Fortran, C/C++, IDL, MATLAB, Python, or comparable) is required.
- Sturdy publication document within the discipline of atmospheric science or distant sensing.
- Wonderful communication abilities for scientific writing and presenting analysis findings.
Most popular {Qualifications}:
- 3-5 years of analysis expertise working with satellite tv for pc information in a related space.
- Demonstrated means to guide a analysis venture.
- Information of present traits and developments in atmospheric science and distant sensing.
To Apply: candidates ought to ship a CV with a listing of no less than 3 skilled references and a canopy letter explaining how your {qualifications} meet the posted necessities to anegri@umd.edu.
