Within the vibrant, sensual, lush season of Beltaine, when all of the world (no less than in our hemisphere!) awakens to greenness, rebirth and new life, I’m pulled to precise myself by means of the physique. The Goddess is our physique, and the Earth’s physique, and that of all beings. The sacred is in each atom of our being. The snake, and the apple, and the tree are all symbols of Her, and She provides us the numerous items of our physique with out disgrace. She loves to listen to us singing again, as She sings to us.
In my poem, “Crimson Oleander,” I’m feeling spun-out and nearly overwhelmed with the great thing about the world by the ocean, enchanted by colours and sounds, and particularly by scents, that almost all historic of the senses. The palmetto is an emblem of the state of South Carolina, together with the crescent moon, and at this explicit time, we had a view of a dove’s nest inside the basket-like fronds of the palm tree. What a blessing to see all the pieces anew, like a new child babe. Deb Pollard’s artwork, which she painted for this poem, provides that brilliant sense of pulsation when the world surprises us with Her power many times.

My second poem, “Dogwood Blossoms on a White Sky,” was composed nearer to house, actually, in my yard. Each Spring it appears I’m particularly drawn to at least one colour or species of tree or flower, and this 12 months, in addition to then, it’s the lacey, gracefully suspended blossoms of the Dogwood tree, one of many first native timber to bloom within the woods. I’m reminded how, in Japan, strolling among the many cherry blossoms is a profoundly sacred ritual shared by many.
My third poem, “Illumination,” comes from a current expertise the place I awoke to be astonished by the intense beam of the almost-full moon, at an ideal angle within the sky to climb slowly up my physique, all by means of the wee hours of the night time. To many people, the Moon is a beloved and outdated good friend, and it was a beneficiant and therapeutic reward to really feel Her lavish Her mild upon me.
Crimson Oleander
A salamander pale inexperienced as the brand new leaves of Might
opens its orange lung-sac, good, to the solar.
Thrice at each pause!
Within the breeze, purple Oleander bends on her lengthy stem, celebrating.
I’m drawn down a quiet lane by the scent of jasmine
beguiling my coronary heart, a path towards pleasure.
The pricey Earth wafts up into me,
heat as fresh-baked bread,
filling my womb with Her love.
With my toes within the sand,
I pull Her love into me, to energy my days.
Mom holds me tenderly, the mourning dove
in her palmetto-basket nest, giving, giving,
we Her infants, Her huge dream,
we Her future and Her now.
The black fin of a dolphin arises from the ocean, historic as days,
loving Her into the fathomless tomorrow.

Dogwood Blossoms on a White Sky
At the moment, dogwood blossoms upon a white, rain-soaked sky.
That is my world!
Robins chatter so earnestly, so convincingly,
I pressure to discern their that means.
A bluejay sails in a straight line by means of the newly-green timber.
That is my world!
This too, the whip-poor-will reminding, reminding,
the hummingbird daring, nearly in-my-face,
this world so able to cruelty, of ache,
the place worry could shatter the day in a heartbeat,
this world too! lies right here, aromatic,
brand-new inexperienced of early Spring,
dogwood blossoms splayed open,
dancing princesses towards the snow-white sky.
Azaleas, salmon-colored,
attain ever wider for our hearts and our questioning eyes.
This too is my world,
this unfathomable place,
my Earth, its fears, its pleasure and its tears,
this magnificence,
white petals open to the whitest sky.

Illumination
The Moon, La Luna, not fairly full,
however nonetheless fairly rattling huge,
scattered Her blessings upon me all night time lengthy.
She moved over my physique slowly,
from my toes as much as my head,
with Her cool midnight mild.
I awoke and She was not but completed,
nonetheless at it, providing me Her ablutions,
baptizing my stomach, my lungs, my coronary heart.
All was nonetheless however the tiny hum
of the heater on that chilly Spring night time.
She spent the entire night time blessing me.
