Why the push to abolish native councils would profit Labor

“Victorians ship damning verdict on native councils!” the Herald Solar screamed from its entrance web page yesterday morning. Based on the story, greater than half of Victorians have had a gutful of native councils and wish them “abolished”, changed with bigger regional authorities, or to have the state authorities take over their duties. And thereby hangs a story or two. 

A couple of months in the past, a really senior Victorian authorities minister was visiting Darebin Council, in Melbourne’s internal north. Darebin covers Northcote, Thornbury, Preston and Reservoir, and is bisected by Bell Avenue, the “Hummus Curtain”, that after separated Labor cubicles within the north from Inexperienced cubicles within the south (the divide has since moved northwards). 

A senior council staffer was telling this very senior authorities minister concerning the complexities of managing a council protecting such various areas — to which the VSGM replied that if he had his manner, he’d abolish councils altogether, weren’t value a pinch of dry piss, and so on. The comment was taken on the time as vanity and bluster by the Andrews authorities concerning the immovable frustrations of native authorities.
